Onslaught trailer features Alex Pereira 3D photogrammetry by Xangle

Learn how Xangle's flexible RAW file handling options can significantly speed up your multi-camera capture workflow. This demo covers three distinct methods to optimize your shooting process, from prioritizing immediate JPEG previews to shooting directly to camera SD cards for maximum speed.

* Get immediate JPEG previews while RAW files transfer in the background (no memory cards required).
* Delay RAW file transfer to SD cards, allowing for faster shooting and later review.
* Shoot directly to camera SD cards for the fastest possible capture.
* Utilize the new 'camera storage' module to review and selectively download RAW files from SD cards.
* Combine burst shots and download them as new data sets.

Optimize your multi-camera setup for efficiency and flexibility with Xangle.

There are three ways to speed up everything when you're shooting with RAW. That involves delaying the RAW file transfer. The first is the new default: when you install Xangle Camera Server, you're going to get the JPEG first and then the RAW files. My current setup is exactly about this. If I increase the ISO so we can see something, I take a first shot. We get the JPEG files. So we have eight of them; I have eight cameras. Super quickly, we see the JPEG files and the RAW files are getting transferred slowly after that. So you can see all of your images right away to figure out if there's a problem or not. The second way, we're going to delay even more. So we're going to activate 'RAW on cards'. Using this, we're going to get only the JPEG files first. So I'm going to change the white balance so we can see a difference in the colors in this data set. I take a shot, and then we're getting the JPEG, and we can clearly see that the RAWs are still on the SD cards. From there, as you see here, eight JPEG files appeared in six seconds. That was fast. So we can download the RAW files or discard them if the shot was not good enough, so we can move on to the next one. But we also have a new panel here with all of the data sets where we do have RAW files on the SD cards. And we can download them one by one or batch download everything. So we have the status here with the number of data sets where we have the RAW files waiting for us to download. So we can batch download all of the included data sets based on that toggle right here. And if we want to review, it's very simple: we click on the thumbnail and then we can click up and down to review and then decide if we want the shot or not. The third method is to shoot on the camera's SD cards only. That's very quick. This is for cases where your actor cannot stay. You have to shoot very quickly and hope for the best. So you're going to shoot on the memory cards only. Check this out: if I select 'cameras only' for the images, then I can take a shot. Again, I'm changing the white balance just so we can see a difference in colors between one data set to the other. So I take a shot. Nothing's happening, but we took the shot and we saw the thumbnails on the cameras, not in Xangle. However, if we go into the new module, let me reduce my face here, we go into 'camera storage' and we analyze. We see everything that is on the memory cards, and it's combined by data sets. It even works with burst shots; they are combined together. We can see that right here. And if I Control-click, I can select all of my burst shots and download all of them as new data sets. Or I can take the last data sets that I took. I can download the JPEG files, the RAW, or the whole data set. Meaning that we have all of our files on the cameras, so I feel like it's a safer option to always have SD cards on cameras. This way, if you have to shoot and you cannot wait for the files to come in, that's the way to go.

3 ways to speed up multi-camera RAW capture with XangleCS

For anyone managing a multi-camera array, the challenge of configuring and reconfiguring settings for different shots can be a significant bottleneck. Xangle's new camera zoning feature is designed to eliminate this friction, allowing you to organize your cameras and their settings with unprecedented efficiency.

Imagine you have a large setup, perhaps 250 cameras for a full-body volumetric capture. You might need one set of cameras focused on the head, another on the body, and a smaller group for quick test shots. With Xangle's camera zones, you can define these groups precisely. Each zone can have its own saved camera settings: think ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and even capture mode (e.g., CR3 + JPEG single shot versus JPEG-only burst).

The demo illustrates this beautifully by showing how easy it is to switch between a 'head' zone configured for high-quality CR3 + JPEG single shots and a 'body' zone optimized for rapid JPEG burst sequences (OLAT for instance...). Not only can you select zones from the dashboard, but keyboard shortcuts make transitions instantaneous. This means less time fiddling with individual camera settings and more time capturing incredible 3D data.

This feature is a huge upgrade for large-scale photogrammetry, bullet-time, and volumetric capture projects.

See how Xangle's advanced camera zoning feature simplifies complex multi-camera setups. This demo shows how to create custom camera zones, assign specific cameras to each, and save unique capture settings for every zone. Streamline your workflow whether you're shooting photogrammetry, bullet-time, or volumetric scenes.

What's covered:
* Creating and managing custom camera zones
* Assigning cameras to different zones
* Saving unique camera settings (ISO, image quality, shot mode) per zone
* Quickly switching between zones using the dashboard selector or keyboard shortcuts
* Demonstrating CR3 + JPEG single shot and JPEG burst modes in different zones

Optimize your multi-camera capture with Xangle's intelligent zoning capabilities.

transcript: If you own 250 cameras, this demo is for you. I have only eight on this test rig, but you're going to see where I'm going with this. So if I go in the camera numbering here, that's a list of cameras. And by default, you're going to get one zone, the main one. And all of the cameras are going to be selected. The idea here is to make subsets of cameras. So you can create as many zones as you wish. In my demo, I created the zone head, body, and test. In the head, I have four cameras: one, two, seven, and eight. I have six cameras in body and only two in the test zone, one and eight, camera eight here that is selected. For the zones, I have a bunch of options. I can show the selector on the dashboard so it's very easy to go from one zone to another. And I have an option to remember the camera settings per zone. So I can really isolate what I want to do with each zone. So I can go, let's say here with the head, I decide to go CR3 plus JPEG, single shot. But with body, I decided to go burst and JPEG only. So if I go to the dashboard, we see the selector under the trigger button. So now I'm in the main zone with all cameras, but let's go in the head. And now it's changing the camera settings on four of the cameras. ISO 100 is too dark, so I'll go to ISO 3200. And the rest looks good. So I click on the trigger button. Count one, shot is getting triggered. And the cat is waiting for me on the chair. So we have the four images here. And we can cycle through them using up and down. And if I close this, and then if I click on the zone, the head, I want to go in body to shoot in burst. So I can click here. But there's a shortcut, Control-Shift-1, 2, 3, and 4. So if I click Control-Shift-3, then I go in the zone body. And my cameras are in burst mode right away. So if I click on the trigger, we just got three shots in JPEG small three. And we have the three iterations right here. So again, we have all the camera settings that are saved per zone. We have the countdown value. This one is once again. I can set it to anything that's going to be remembered at the zone level. And also the image quality, anything that you see here is saved for the zone. Let's go to the test shot. It's only two images. I set it to CR3 plus JPEG. Let's go to only JPEG small one. It's really about getting a test shot. We should see only two images. So I click button. And very quickly, I get my two frames here that I can use to validate if the settings are right, if the pose is okay, all of that. Thank you. Miniminoo.

Antiantiart directed and produced the music video for "Come My Way," featuring Sơn Tùng M-TP and Tyga. The creative team at Antiantiart, led by director Lf.pvnirvana, employed innovative capture techniques to bring the vision to life. A custom bullet-time rig with 30 Canon 200D Mark II cameras was used for Gaussian Splatting, capturing a traditional bull-racing festival in An Giang. This data was then composited with Sơn Tùng M-TP's green screen footage. Additionally, Sơn Tùng M-TP underwent volumetric capture to create immersive virtual environments while maintaining the natural nuances of his performance. The film aimed to reinterpret Vietnamese cultural imagery through contemporary technology, using real-world captures to preserve authenticity across diverse Vietnamese settings, all while maintaining a precise and polished lighting aesthetic.

Volumetric Capture: Sơn Tùng M-TP was captured inside a volumetric capture stage, allowing us to create immersive virtual environments while preserving natural performance nuances. Conceptually, I wanted everything in the film, including the virtual elements, to retain a strong human quality. Rather than relying on fully 3D-modeled assets, we used Gaussian Splatting to capture the movement of real bulls, allowing us to reinterpret Vietnamese cultural imagery through a contemporary technological lens while preserving its authenticity. Synchronized multi-camera capture with mixed Canon EOS models

In this demo I run 8 Canon cameras at once (6x SL1, 1x R100, 1x T7) and show how to keep the shared settings in sync while still controlling the ones that differ.

What you will see:
- Manage settings individually per camera model
- Access modern file types like CR3 on the R100, where older bodies cannot
- Group models by manufacturer to get one set of synced controls
- Unlink the settings that differ (aperture, image quality) so each body keeps its own value
- Sync ISO across every camera from a single button
- Split into lanes per camera model, or per lens, so 8 cameras or 200 stay manageable
- Read the dashboard lanes (A, B, C) by camera number and model

The idea is simple: sync everything that can be shared, and isolate only what has to be different. One place, no clicking model by model.

Light-painting photographer Eric Pare explored the capabilities of a human 3D scanner by using it to capture his new bag. This project, documented as episode 255, demonstrates an innovative application of 3D scanning technology beyond its typical use for human subjects. Pare's work often involves pushing the boundaries of photography and light, and this experiment showcases a creative intersection with advanced scanning techniques. The initiative highlights the versatility of 3D scanning for detailed object capture and its potential for artistic and practical applications.

My multi-camera rig wasn’t designed to scan objects. It was built to scan humans. Humans move, breathe, blink, and refuse to float mid-air. To capture them properly in 3D, everything needs to happen in a fraction of a second. But can we scan objects with it? Yes. And in this video, I explain when it actually makes sense to do so. We break down two specific use cases where a human-scale photogrammetry rig outperforms traditional object scanning: high-volume production and capturing objects in motion. From scanning hundreds of items in a single day to freezing a falling object from every angle at once, this is where “overkill” becomes the right tool. For this test, I scanned a photography bag from my friend Stanley Aryanto, the founder of Two Red Tabs, and threw it into action… literally! Xangle Studio collaborated with dancer Kim Henry to produce a five-second 4D Gaussian Splatting (4DGS) sequence. This project demonstrated the potential of 4DGS technology using readily available equipment, specifically 80 DSLR cameras. The technical process involved importing a PLY sequence into After Effects, feeding it to Irrealix, and animating the frame index to achieve the desired effect. This showcases an accessible approach to creating complex volumetric video, highlighting Xangle Studio's expertise in advanced capture techniques and post-production workflows for dynamic content.

A five-seconds 4DGS sequence, far from being perfect, but made with basic equipment you already have at home (80 dslr cameras) 😅 It took me a while to figure out how to make this in AfterEffects. Turns out it was quite simple: you just need to import a PLY sequence (File/import/multiple files), feed it to Irrealix and animate the frame-index. Artists Kim Henry and Eric Pare collaborated at Xangle Studio to perform a highly detailed 3D scan of a single plant. Utilizing an advanced rig equipped with 200 cameras, the team captured intricate details in a fraction of a second, significantly accelerating a process that typically demands extensive time for such complex subjects. This innovative application of photogrammetry at Xangle Studio demonstrates an efficient method for achieving high-fidelity 3D scans, providing a rapid solution for capturing fine details with exceptional precision.

It’s totally overkill to use 200 cameras to 3D scan a single plant, but the results make it so worth it. Usually, scanning something this intricate takes forever, but this rig captures every tiny detail in only a fraction of a second. It’s the ultimate shortcut to a perfect 3D scan, even if the quantity of cameras is a little bit insane. 🌿✨ #photogrammetry #gaussiansplatting #3dgs By @kimhenry.dance & @ericparephoto at the @xanglestudio".

Eric Paré collaborated with dancer Merrick Hanna at Xangle Studio, utilizing advanced photogrammetry techniques. During their session, they captured 3D data of Hanna, which was then processed in a 3D environment. A bounding box was defined around the subject, ensuring that only the relevant data within this area was considered for the final render, effectively ignoring external elements such as cameras. This precise method allowed for focused and clean 3D output, showcasing the capabilities of photogrammetry for capturing detailed subject data.
