Twenty-seven years after The Matrix introduced the iconic bullet time effect, we had the opportunity to bring a modern version of that setup into Studio A!

For this shoot with Colossus, we operated a 40-camera bullet time rig powered by Xangle's real-time processing software, allowing the crew to review shots instantly and keep the creative process moving.

There are three ways to speed up everything when you're shooting with RAW. That involves delaying the RAW file transfer. The first is the new default: when you install Xangle Camera Server, you're going to get the JPEG first and then the RAW files. My current setup is exactly about this. If I increase the ISO so we can see something, I take a first shot. We get the JPEG files. So we have eight of them; I have eight cameras. Super quickly, we see the JPEG files and the RAW files are getting transferred slowly after that. So you can see all of your images right away to figure out if there's a problem or not. The second way, we're going to delay even more. So we're going to activate 'RAW on cards'. Using this, we're going to get only the JPEG files first. So I'm going to change the white balance so we can see a difference in the colors in this data set. I take a shot, and then we're getting the JPEG, and we can clearly see that the RAWs are still on the SD cards. From there, as you see here, eight JPEG files appeared in six seconds. That was fast. So we can download the RAW files or discard them if the shot was not good enough, so we can move on to the next one. But we also have a new panel here with all of the data sets where we do have RAW files on the SD cards. And we can download them one by one or batch download everything. So we have the status here with the number of data sets where we have the RAW files waiting for us to download. So we can batch download all of the included data sets based on that toggle right here. And if we want to review, it's very simple: we click on the thumbnail and then we can click up and down to review and then decide if we want the shot or not. The third method is to shoot on the camera's SD cards only. That's very quick. This is for cases where your actor cannot stay. You have to shoot very quickly and hope for the best. So you're going to shoot on the memory cards only. Check this out: if I select 'cameras only' for the images, then I can take a shot. Again, I'm changing the white balance just so we can see a difference in colors between one data set to the other. So I take a shot. Nothing's happening, but we took the shot and we saw the thumbnails on the cameras, not in Xangle. However, if we go into the new module, let me reduce my face here, we go into 'camera storage' and we analyze. We see everything that is on the memory cards, and it's combined by data sets. It even works with burst shots; they are combined together. We can see that right here. And if I Control-click, I can select all of my burst shots and download all of them as new data sets. Or I can take the last data sets that I took. I can download the JPEG files, the RAW, or the whole data set. Meaning that we have all of our files on the cameras, so I feel like it's a safer option to always have SD cards on cameras. This way, if you have to shoot and you cannot wait for the files to come in, that's the way to go.

For anyone managing a multi-camera array, the challenge of configuring and reconfiguring settings for different shots can be a significant bottleneck. transcript: If you own 250 cameras, this demo is for you. I have only eight on this test rig, but you're going to see where I'm going with this. So if I go in the camera numbering here, that's a list of cameras. And by default, you're going to get one zone, the main one. And all of the cameras are going to be selected. The idea here is to make subsets of cameras. So you can create as many zones as you wish. In my demo, I created the zone head, body, and test. In the head, I have four cameras: one, two, seven, and eight. I have six cameras in body and only two in the test zone, one and eight, camera eight here that is selected. For the zones, I have a bunch of options. I can show the selector on the dashboard so it's very easy to go from one zone to another. And I have an option to remember the camera settings per zone. So I can really isolate what I want to do with each zone. So I can go, let's say here with the head, I decide to go CR3 plus JPEG, single shot. But with body, I decided to go burst and JPEG only. So if I go to the dashboard, we see the selector under the trigger button. So now I'm in the main zone with all cameras, but let's go in the head. And now it's changing the camera settings on four of the cameras. ISO 100 is too dark, so I'll go to ISO 3200. And the rest looks good. So I click on the trigger button. Count one, shot is getting triggered. And the cat is waiting for me on the chair. So we have the four images here. And we can cycle through them using up and down. And if I close this, and then if I click on the zone, the head, I want to go in body to shoot in burst. So I can click here. But there's a shortcut, Control-Shift-1, 2, 3, and 4. So if I click Control-Shift-3, then I go in the zone body. And my cameras are in burst mode right away. So if I click on the trigger, we just got three shots in JPEG small three. And we have the three iterations right here. So again, we have all the camera settings that are saved per zone. We have the countdown value. This one is once again. I can set it to anything that's going to be remembered at the zone level. And also the image quality, anything that you see here is saved for the zone. Let's go to the test shot. It's only two images. I set it to CR3 plus JPEG. Let's go to only JPEG small one. It's really about getting a test shot. We should see only two images. So I click button. And very quickly, I get my two frames here that I can use to validate if the settings are right, if the pose is okay, all of that. Thank you. Miniminoo.

Xangle Studio simplifies bullet-time camera alignment without calibration bars

Antiantiart directed and produced the music video for "Come My Way," featuring Sơn Tùng M-TP and Tyga. The creative team at Antiantiart, led by director Lf.pvnirvana, employed innovative capture techniques to bring the vision to life. A custom bullet-time rig with 30 Canon 200D Mark II cameras was used for Gaussian Splatting, capturing a traditional bull-racing festival in An Giang. This data was then composited with Sơn Tùng M-TP's green screen footage. Additionally, Sơn Tùng M-TP underwent volumetric capture to create immersive virtual environments while maintaining the natural nuances of his performance. The film aimed to reinterpret Vietnamese cultural imagery through contemporary technology, using real-world captures to preserve authenticity across diverse Vietnamese settings, all while maintaining a precise and polished lighting aesthetic.

This project, documented as episode 255, demonstrates an innovative application of 3D scanning technology beyond its typical use for human subjects. Pare's work often involves pushing the boundaries of photography and light, and this experiment showcases a creative intersection with advanced scanning techniques. The initiative highlights the versatility of 3D scanning for detailed object capture and its potential for artistic and practical applications.

My multi-camera rig wasn’t designed to scan objects. It was built to scan humans. Humans move, breathe, blink, and refuse to float mid-air. To capture them properly in 3D, everything needs to happen in a fraction of a second. But can we scan objects with it? Yes. And in this video, I explain when it actually makes sense to do so. We break down two specific use cases where a human-scale photogrammetry rig outperforms traditional object scanning: high-volume production and capturing objects in motion. From scanning hundreds of items in a single day to freezing a falling object from every angle at once, this is where “overkill” becomes the right tool. Splice Boys achieved a world-first by producing a commercial entirely with 3D Gaussian Splats and a custom-built light field array. This innovative approach transformed traditional volumetric capture, typically confined to controlled studio environments, by integrating it into a fast-paced commercial production. The team customized each volumetric rig to meet the specific demands of diverse scenes and locations, adapting camera array layouts, lensing, rigging, and movement logistics while adhering to a tight schedule. This method allowed every scene to become an editable volumetric 3D asset, providing directors and editors unprecedented control to reframe shots and animate cameras in post-production. These versatile assets are also deployable across virtual production, XR, mixed reality, interactive web, and other spatial platforms.

“Behind the Scenes” of the world’s first commercial made end-to-end using 3D Gaussian Splats and a custom-built light field array. A process like volumetric capture is traditionally staged in clinical environments labs or controlled studios and often used to create digital humans. We turned that model on its head and brought it into the fast-paced, unpredictable world of TVC production. Without compromise, we customised each volumetric rig to suit the unique demands of every scene and location, adapting to on-set challenges as they came. That meant rethinking everything: the layout and lensing of the camera array, the physical logistics of rigging, and movement constraints all while staying on track with a demanding commercial shoot schedule. This custom configuration of multiple synchronised cameras captured the light field of each scene from a wide range of angles, allowing the data to be processed using 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) a cutting-edge method for representing complex environments with photorealistic fidelity. In our project, this meant every scene became a volumetric 3D asset, editable in post not just in 2D, but in full 3D space. We were able to reframe shots, animate cameras, and build the commercial volumetrically after the shoot, giving directors and editors a new level of control and creative freedom. But it doesn’t stop there. These assets are no longer limited to traditional flat-screen storytelling. They are now deployable across Virtual Production, XR, Mixed Reality, interactive web, and emerging spatial platforms. The team collaborated with Publicis Worldwide, who supported the new imaging system and integrated it with creative direction from ECD Ryan Petie.
